Meanwhile, back in Amerika, enter BRODY CASH PETERSON!!

We are happy to announce the birth of our newest grandson, Brody Cash Peterson, weighing in at 7 pounds, 13 ounces, and whose length is yet to be announced.  He is beautiful and looks a lot like Leilani and Eli (alias Rocky), his brother and sister!  Oh, and Mom and Dad are doing fine!

A Deseret Bookstore in Kaposvar?

We thought we saw a Deseret Bookstore when we were walking down the street in Kaposvar.  We didn't find any books, however.

Traditional Easter Monday Meal

We were invited to have a traditional Easter dinner with an investigator family in Kaposvar.  The father, mother, and older daughter, Dorothy, had a competition as they peeled the Easter eggs for the dinner. Mom won.  It was fun to watch!  The little one is named Jasmine.  She is a friendly little 4 year-old.  So tiny, and speaks great Hungarian!  The dinner is smoked ham with horseradish sauce, potatoes, hard-boiled Easter eggs, and an egg/sour cream dish. After we ate, the table was taken back into the kitchen.  Now the room is back to being the front room and master bedroom.  Before we left, the Dad read a Book of Mormon scripture, Alma 5:14, and expounded on it.  Great!
They live in a HUGE ten-story apartment complex.

Our First Snow in Kaposvar

We were out with the missionaries on Tuesday night, and when we came out of the ten story there was snow on the cars!  It is the first time we have seen snow in Hungary.  It does snow here after all!
It was so cold that night!

More Scenes from Kaposvar

Today we ran some errands in Kaposvar and saw some interesting sites.  The first one is the  outside stand where we often buy fruits and vegetables.  The second--well, your guess is as good as ours--but it is interesting!

The Memorial to the 1956 Revolution

The Hungarian Revolution of 1956 was short lived but showed the courage of the Hungarian people as they revolted against Communism.  There is a beautiful Memorial to that revolution in Kaposvar.

Our Magnificent Missionaries

We love Sister Gordon, Sister Adams, Elder Dietrich, and Elder Fitzsgerald!  They are hard workers but also can make us laugh!

Exercise Park by the Ten Story

Now that the weather is warming up, we have a sportnap (sport day) one Saturday a month.  This is the exercise park next to the basketball/soccer court.  The equipment is designed to use body weight for the resistance.  Both facilities are located right next to a huge ten story apartment complex.  These are very common in Hungary.  But this one is the biggest one we have ever seen.  It is a block long.  Five stories don't get elevators (ask us how we know), but ten stories do.  And they are a bit scary (ask us how we know).

Statues in Kaposvar

These statues decorate the walking path in downtown Kaposvar.  They are so charming!

Visit with Brigit and Friends

Each week we visit Brigit, who is an investigator with a testimony.  She even has a daughter on a mission in London.  We hope to see her and her husband be baptized while we are here.  The dog on the left is Barbi, she is holding another, and there is one on the floor.  Brigi is really fun to be around. Her dogs LOVE her, as you can see.

The salad had tomatoes, cucumber, cheese, onions, chopped olives, and a little mushroom in it. There was a little vinegar added.  Very good!

More Rakott Krumpli--potatoes, hard-boiled eggs, sausage, and sour cream.  Yummy.

The lesson was on fasting and nicely given by Elder Dietrich and Elder Fitzgerald.  Elder Peterson and I listened, trying to hear any Hungarian words we knew.  And occasionally the Elders would translate.  It was a nice evening.  Brigi's mother always makes something to eat.  She said she would join us next week.  Usually, she stays in her room watching Mexican soap operas (novelas).  Really! Each week, Brigi says, "She is in Mexico tonight," and just laughs.

Lunch Celebration at Hotel Kaposvar

We decided to celebrate the one month mark of our mission at a nice restaurant where one of the young men, Butzi, works.  The food was beautiful and fun.  We ate with the young elders and sisters, and Butzi was our very attentive waiter.

This was bacon wrapped veal over potatoes. Elder Fitzgerald enjoyed it!  Butzi's suggestion.  He told him that the first thing he ordered wasn't as good as this. So, Elder Fitzgerald changed his order!

This was pork with french fried onions and potatoes.

This is Weiner schnitzel--breaded pork.  Somehow, I thought Weiner schintzel was a hotdog! This is a German dish--Elder Dietrich's selection!

This was pork ribs with rice and hashed brown potatoes.

This was chicken over potatoes and a unique and wonderful  salad that had a touch of vinegar in it.  This was my lunch.  Great!

This is salmon, potatoes, eggplant, and other good stuff.  Dad's lunch.  He cleaned his plate!

This was dessert--a creme-filled donut, Hungarian style.  We each got one!

This is our 17 year-old waiter who works at the restaurant in a kind of   ROP program with his school.  He speaks excellent English!  Notice the background.  We felt like we were in the Sacred Grove!  Sister Gordon is jobbra (on the right).  Butzi is balra (on the left).
